In Takefu, Fukui pref. 1904, a young unconscious man is brought to his home. His name is Tokuzo Akiyama, and he has just been expelled from a monastery only after three months. Unlike the first son ? Shutaro, who studies law in a university in Tokyo - Tokuzo gives up on things very easily. His worried father, Shuzo, arranges for his son to marry Toshiko of the Takahama family who runs a wholesale business that sells kelp seaweed. Tokuzo feels happy at first in his new life, but again, it doesn’t last for a long.
One day, a life-changing event happens to him. Newly-married Tokuzo encounters Tanabe, a chef at the Sabae Regiment while delivering kelp. Tanabe offers him a freshly-fried cutlet and Tokuzo is overwhelmed by the taste. “I want to cook food like this” he says. Though just a single piece of cutlet, the impact was so great it triggered a lifelong dream in Tokuzo to be “the best chef in Japan”. He takes his “dream” to Tokyo to turn it into a reality.
After visiting Shutaro in Tokyo, his professor at the university, Shogo Kirizuka, kindly arranges for Tokuzo to work in the kitchen in Kazoku Kaikan. While there, Tokuzo encounters master chef, Kenichi Usami, and falls into a world far more hostile than anything Tokuzo had imagined.
As a trainee Tokuzo meets his lifelong friends Shintaro Matsui and Tatsukichi Yamagami. Though life in the kitchen is far from easy, Tokuzo manages to carve out some success through his strong passion to be a great chef and also learning from Usami’s motto - “cooking is cordiality”.
Yet Tokuzo comes into some trouble - people are getting resentful of his success; he is kicked out of Kazoku Kaikan for failing to face Usami faithfully; his loving wife suddenly suggests a divorce; and his brother, Shutaro, is struck down by a serious illness.
Despite all these difficulties, he goes to Paris alone to pursue his dream. Overcoming racism and language barriers, Tokuzo is trained by Escoffier, a French chef known as the “God of French cuisine”. As he starts to build a strong presence in the Hotel Ritz, Tokuzo gets an offer to work as an Emperor’s cook in Japan.
Conflicted over whether or not to stay in France, Tokuzo decides to go back to become “the best chef in Japan” and realize the dream of ailing brother. At just 26, Tokuzo becomes the Emperor’s cook, hosting as many as 2,000 guests at the Emperor Taisho’s coronation ceremony with tributes from many foreign countries. For 58 years thereafter, Tokuzo Akiyama served as the Emperor’s cook.
In times of rapid change - Meiji, Taisho and Showa - there was a man who strived to fulfil his dream in cooking. A dream cannot be fulfilled alone or in one day. His family, friends and seniors supported him unconditionally. This is a story of a young man who devoted his life to his dream and those who supported him with love.

While studying whisky-making in Scotland, Masaharu Kameyama (Massan) falls in love with a beautiful woman named Ellie, and marries her. Together they return to Japan in 1920 to pursue Massan’s dream of making the first Japanese whisky, unaware of the trials that await. Massan’s mother, Sanae, refuses to accept her son marrying a foreigner and expects him to take over the family’s sake business in Hiroshima. Instead, Massan takes Ellie and returns to his job at the Sumiyoshi Brewery in Osaka, but his boss, Daisaku Tanaka, had been expecting Massan to marry his daughter. After the directors decide against Massan’s whisky plan, Massan is eventually forced into unemployment. As his quarrels with Ellie escalate, Ellie herself encounters various people and finds her own connection with Japan. That helps bring her and Massan closer together.
Eventually, Massan gains support from Kinjiro Kamoi, the ambitious president of a wine and spirit wholesale company. Together they build Japan’s first distillery in Yamazaki, near Osaka, but the whisky doesn’t sell at all. As Japan enters the Showa Era in 1926, Massan and Ellie decide to move to Yoichi, Hokkaido - an ideal location to make whisky. But when the Pacific War breaks out and Ellie is suspected of spying, once again their marriage is tested to its limits. It’s the story of “a married couple’s love and adventure”, as their courage and resolve pulls them through all the trials life throws at them.

One day, before summer vacation, he makes one decision. It was to bring in his manga work to a publisher in Tokyo.
The elegy of an enthusiastic university student Moyuru Honoo begins…..

February 1933, a man of small stature is in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi prefecture. It is Takeru Suguro, a great detective. He had just solved a murder case in a military facility in Kokura and was on his way to catch the Fuji Express back to Tokyo. It was February, right in the middle of the low season, and yet, all the first class berths on the Fuji Express were completely booked. That was a problem, for being a bit of an egoist, Suguro did not want to ride in a second class coach. By luck, he reencounters his friend Baku, an official of the Ministry of Railways, who somehow manages to secure accommodations for Suguro in the first class coach. At 9:00 a.m., the Fuji Express departs Shimonoseki. It would arrive Tokyo the next morning. In the dining car, Suguro meets Todo, who claims to be a successful businessman. He asks Suguro to become his bodyguard, but Suguro is annoyed by his arrogant attitude and refuses to be of service. The next morning, Suguro wakes to find that the train has been forced to stop due to a snowstorm and that they were stranded somewhere in the mountains. Then, Todo is found murdered in his compartment. Baku turns to Suguro for help. From circumstantial evidence, Surugo promises to solve the case before the train starts moving again. Upon close examination of the crime scene, Suguro discovers the true identity of Todo. He was Kenji Kasahara, a.k.a. Kasaken, a prime suspect in the “Goriki Kidnapping Case,” which shook the nation five years ago. It was truly a heinous crime. Army Colonel Goriki’s three-year old daughter was kidnapped and found dead. Kasaken was arrested as the prime suspect, but he was not charged due to insufficient evidence. The law could not touch him, and he walked a free man. Suguro deduces that the motive is “revenge.” Believing that there is someone closely connected to Colonel Goriki among the passengers, he questions all 12 passengers in the coach with the aid of Baku. Through the interviews, Suguro discovers a surprising truth. All of the 12 passengers had close association with the Goriki family.

A year later, the frugal Yoshitaro has changed dramatically and is now pouring his hard earned savings into the start-up capital for Rieko's new barber shop. The third dramatization of a popular series, the 2014 version was Channel 3’s highest rated hit of the year (14.9%). It won acclaim from both viewers and critics, clinching numerous awards in Thailand including the prestigious Nataraja Awards.
Haughty, spoiled rich girl Karat is in for a shock. Not only does her third husband suddenly die in a car accident, her best friend of 13 years, Sainampueng, is pregnant with his baby. Verging on a mental breakdown, the vulnerable Karat meets Pisut. Unlike her previous husbands, Pisut isn't after her money or beauty. Karat is gradually drawn to him. But just as things look as though Karat has finally found true love and a bond on which to build a marriage, evil Sainampueng reappears, hell bent on ruining everything.
Thailand’s leading actress Ann Thongprasom, who played Karat in the second dramatization (2001), donned her producer’s hat for the 2014 version. She was instrumental in bringing in veteran “melodrama” director Amaiporn Jitmaingong ? a departure from the male directors of the past that resulted in a Best Director award. In addition, the surprise casting of the gifted and popular actress Warattaya Nilkuha in her first villain role made news. Her performance captured two Best Supporting Actress awards.
